Things To Do

The Texas Gulf Coast, and specifically Port Aransas, is world famous for fishing. Whether you are a serious angler or weekend warrior, there is always great fishing in Port Aransas. From deep sea fishing charters to dockside fishing with the kids, there is truly something for everyone.

Sandpiper is a Prime Location for Fishing

Fish take real estate just as seriously as we do at Sandpiper Condominiums, and fortunately for you, Port Aransas is a prime location for casting a line. Depending on your fishing style and desired catch, you can find many fishing destinations in the bays, along the beach, and out into the gulf. For a relaxed and fish-filled day, head over to the Port Aransas South Jetty. This pier is the perfect place to watch the sunrise and watch the sea turtles feed. You’ll also likely catch some inshore and nearshore fish any time of the day. If you head south through Port Aransas Beach Park, you’ll hit Horace Caldwell Pier, the longest pier in Port Aransas and a great place to catch larger nearshore fish. If you want some inland camping with your trawl, try the Port Aransas Causeway where the waters are steady and the fish are hungry. If you’re an adventurous angler, you’ll want to charter a boat and head into Redfish Bay, Aransas Bay, or Corpus Christi Bay. If you have a calm stomach and a lot of patience, charter a boat and ride 150 miles offshore to hook some blue marlin. What else can you catch in Port Aransas? So glad you asked!

Catch of the Day

The diverse marine environment along the Gulf of Mexico allows several species of fish to propagate throughout the year and Port Aransas is no exception. Though the Port Aransas Redfish maintains its title as the aquatic celebrity of the region, as it shares its namesake with the nearby Redfish Bay, it’s far from being the only fish in the sea. Vacationers in Port Aransas can expect to bait trout, tuna, snapper, mackerel and sailfish in the channels and on the coast. Redfish along with Cobia can be lured with shrimp or a quick fly-fishing arm. These smaller fish live in the shallows around Port Aransas and are a great mark for kayakers, however, don’t go overboard. These species are highly monitored and protected from being overfished during spawning season. If you’re heading to Port Aransas in the cooler months, cast your line for some trout. Seatrout are inshore/nearshore fish and they are plentiful in Port Aransas all year long. For a prize fish like a Yellowfin, you’ll have to venture out into deep, rough waters, a perfect opportunity to hire a boat from one of the many local fishing charters in Port Aransas. Some charters offer extended private day trips for anglers looking to hook shark and sailfish; they also offer expert guides who track fish migration patterns and can help you catch the big one. Many local Port Aransas restaurants will even cook your fresh caught fish for you and your friends, which makes the perfect end to a day out on the water!
